After trying to launch a new instance based on my encrypted AMI, I got the error &#8220;No valid instance types found.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It seems this only works with m3 instance types due to the Virtualization Type=Paravirtual, but there don&#8217;t seem to be any other real options available.&lt;\/div<\/p>\n<p>Take a Snapshot<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stop the instance before taking the snapshot.\u00a0 This will ensure the OS and application cache is cleared and provide consistent data.\n<ul>\n<li>Actions &gt; Instance State &gt; Stop &lt; [Yes, Stop]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Volumes &gt; Select volume &gt; Actions &gt; Create Snapshot\n<ul>\n<li>Note you cannot encrypt this snapshot!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Copy the Snapshot<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Snapshots &gt; Select Snapshot &gt; Actions &gt; Copy\n<ul>\n<li>Select Region<\/li>\n<li>Change Name?<\/li>\n<li>Encrypt!\u00a0 (Will use default key)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Create an Image from the Snapshot<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Snapshots &gt; Select Snapshot &gt; Actions &gt; Create Image\n<ul>\n<li>This creates a custom AMI (Amazon Machine Image)!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Launch a new instance from the new AMI<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Dashboards &gt; AMIs &gt; Select AMI &gt; [Launch]<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Exam Tips<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>To create a snapshot for Amazon EBS volumes that serve as root devices, you should stop the instance before taking the snapshot.<\/li>\n<li>Snapshots of encrypted volumes are encrypted automatically.<\/li>\n<li>Volumes restored from encrypted snapshots are encrypted automatically.<\/li>\n<li>You can share snapshots, but only if they are unencrypted.\n<ul>\n<li>These snapshots can be shared with other AWS accounts or made public, or even sold on the store.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>https:\/\/www.udemy.com\/aws-certified-solutions-architect-associate\/learn\/v4\/t\/lecture\/2050672?start=0 This lab did not work for me.
